Unveiling of the commemorative plaque in Meaux (2011-09-17).
On September 17, Mr. Jean-François Copé, mayor of Meaux (Seine-et-Marne), presided over the official unveiling of the commemorative plaque in honor of our ancestor Pierre Charron.
The ceremony was attended by many personalities including Mr.
Michel Robitaille, Québec general delegate in France, Mrs. Muriel
Héricher, deputy-mayor, Mr. Pierre Charon, president of la Société
historique de Meaux et sa région
(SHMR), Mr. Jean-François Viel, genealogist, and of course members of our association. Among them were Mr. Denis Charron, our vice-president, Mr. Émile Ducharme, our dean who, at 91, realized his dream of visiting the city of his ancestors, and Mrs. Estelle Charron.
The
plaque will be installed shortly in its final location in the market area, specifically on Cornillon Street where Pierre Charron owned a house he had inherited from his ancestors.
An upcoming issue of the
Trait d'union
will present a full report on this event. If you are not already a member, we suggest you join our association to partake in this tribute to our ancestors.
