L'histoire de l'une des trois souches, celle de Jean Le Normand «Fonder foyer en
Nouvelle-France» refait le parcours des
Normand venus du Perche au cours du XVIIe siècle. Ce livre, qui suit les traces
des ancêtres sur quatre générations, permet d'accéder à un siècle d'histoire,
dans le quotidien des familles, en accord avec les mêmes règles de vie que la
mère patrie.
Sociologue de formation, professeure au Cégep F.-X. Garneau à
Québec de 1972 à 1984, Germaine Normand présente un document de 300 pages,
fruit de dix années de recherches rigoureuses.
Ce livre, écrit dans un style vivant et limpide, est appuyé sur une
importante documentation d'époque. Publié par les Éditions MultiMondes
en 1999, il est en vente dans les librairies et à l'association.

The
history of one of the three family branches, that of Jean le Normand, is told in «Founding of a Family in New France», which traces the journey of the Normands who came from the French province of Perche in the 17th century. This book, which
follows the family over four generations, opens a window on a century of
history as it reaches into the daily lives of family members, most of whom
closely followed patterns of behaviour established in the mother country.
A
sociologist by training and a professor at Francois-Xavier Garneau
College in Québec from 1972 to 1984, Germaine Normand's 300 pages work is the
product of ten years of rigorous research. Written in a clear and vibrant
style, it is based on invaluable records of the era. Published in French only
by Editions Multimondes in 1999, her book can be
bought through
bookstores and the Normand family association.
