A.M.A.N's Achievements

Annual meetings:
Each year the association holds a general membership meeting in different locations in Quebec which are announced in the bulletin.
Le Mercien:
Published as a tabloid, this quarterly bulletin is published in the two official languages of Canada and contains various features and articles concernimg Mercier families, messages from the president of A.M.A.N., genalogy, family histories, notes on Merciers who have upcoming special events and other notes of interest.
We would welcome news of your Mercier family and relatives or of your region which we may publish in the bulletin.
Reunions:
In 1987, the first Mercier reunion took place at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre. In 1997, the association held its second reunion at the same location. The three day reunion, on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of August 1997 was attended by Merciers from Quebec, Alberta, the Maritimes provinces and the United States of America. Some from as far as California and Florida.
Trips to Europe:
In July 1988, the Mercier Association organized a trip to England and France.
On this trip, a commemorative plaque was erected in Tourouvre, France, in the old province of Perche. Tourouvre is the village in which Julien, one of the early pilgrims to New France, was born.
In September of 1992, a second trip to France took place.
Commemorative plaques:
The Mercier Association has erected commemorative plaques at the following locations:
- On August 15, 1987 in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre in memory of Julien Mercier and his wife Marie Poulin and their 11 children.
- On July 1 1988 in the small village church of Tourouvre, France, in honor of Julien Mercier.
- On August 20, 1989 at the original house of J. Pascal Mercier, the eldest son of Julien Mercier and Marie Poulin, in the town of Berthier-sur-Mer.
- On August 20, 1989, in Saint-Pierre-du-Sud, on the original plot of Pierre Mercier said Caudebec, in his memory.
Publications:

In 1987, the founder of our Association, Mr Ernest Mercier of Quebec City, published a comprehensive work containing approximately five hundred pages entitled 'Mercier Depuis des Siecles'. The book, written in french, traces the history of the Mercier name not only in New France, but from its origin in Europe. This work also contains the history of several contemporary Mercier families. This book can be purchased from the Association. New members will receive this book free with the contribution payment. Please refer to the " membership " section.

- In 1997, Lucienne Mercier-Croteau of Bonnyville, Alberta, published a six hundred page work entitled 'Mercier: Hier et Aujourd'hui, 1647-1997' The author delves into the history of her family, which settled in Alberta.

- In 1999, Pierre-Paul Mercier of Saint-Lambert, the current president of the Association, published a four hundred page work entilled 'Napoleon Mercier et Alphonsine Chartier, Ancetres et Descendants (1557-1998) This extensive work relates the detailed history of the author's grandfather since the early family settlement up to the current living descendants of this couple.
In 2000, a group under the leadership of Jean-Marc Mercier of Laval published a history of the family of 'Vitaline Lejeune et de Joseph Mercier'. It is a 140 page work presenting the family of that couple, with emphasis on contemporary family members.

- Les Editions du Septentrion published in 1994 a history on Honoré Mercier, the Premier of Quebec, written by historian Gilles Galichan. This book of 200 pages can be obtained from the Association at a cost of 20.$ plus postage and handling.
In October 2002, Luc Mercier of Longueuil, a retired judge and prolific author, published a novel, Le Temple du Bonheur, which follows a previous work entitled Le Goût du Bonheur, released in 1997. Those two novels are based on childhood memories of the author since he was five years old and lived in the Beauce region. This last book, written in French, can be obtained from AMAN at a cost of 20$ plus postage and handling.
Genealogical datas:
Voluntary workers have collected genealogical datas which contains more than 66,000 names and more than 20,000 marriages informations. It is possible to produce ancestry title and help you to research your Mercier ancestors. See " Research " and " Members assistance " sections for more informations.
