the Governor of Québec

François Dumas, son of Charles and Anne LEMAIRE, was born around 1636 in Paris, in Saint-Sauveur parish. He worked as a guard of Jacques René BRISAY, Marquis de DENONVILLE and Governor of Québec when he married Marie du MONTMAYNIER (or MONTMÉGNIER), the daughter of Michel and Isabelle LARIVIÈRE, ON 25 NOVEMBER 1687. Marie, who was baptised on 25 February 1646 in the parish of Saint-Jean in Rouen, was a Fille du Roi who had arrived in Québec in 1665. She was the widow of Noël ROSE, son of Nicolas and Jeanne TARIF, whom she had married in Québec on 7 January 1666. She was deceased by 24 July 1702.

François and Marie had one daughter, Marguerite, who was born on 19 July 1690 and baptised the following day in Québec.

François DUMAS was also an interpreter for the Iroquoian people. The date of his death is unknown. He may have returned to France.
