Non profitable organization founded in 1988 by persons bearing the family name "BOUTIN" wishing to regroup all Boutin of America in order to favor gatherings and to establish a dictionary of all Boutin descending from our Ancestors.
The first meeting took place in St Gervais de Bellechasse Québec on August 25th 1988. 14 persons were elected on the board of directors; they are today:
A newsletter is published three to four times a year and is titled: "Journal des Boutin d'Amerique"
For the 1990 gathering, a book was edited titled "Les Boutin D'Amérique" by Guy Boutin and Jeannine Thibodeau.
The last Boutin gathering was taking place in Neuville Quebec on September 18 and 19th 2004. This place is where Antoine Boutin spent the last years of his life.
The first large gathering was held in 1990 in Quebec City; more than 1,000 happy Boutin attended. They came from many regions of Canada and United States. For the occasion, the Toponymy commission of the Province of Quebec officialized a place that will now bear the name Boutin: ANSE des Boutin (Boutin's Cove) situated along the St Lawrence River between St. Vallier de Bellechasse and Berthier-sur-Mer. This cove is touching a piece of land that belonged to Louis Boutin an ancestor's son. Also, a monument was unveiled in the Neuville cemetery in order to honor the memory of Antoine Boutin the most prolific ancestor. This gathering created links between attendants that will stay for ever in our memories.
During the month of September of the next year (1991), it was the trip to the ancestor's land. 57 descendants of Antoine Boutin had the chance to walk on the same land as the ancestor did 350 years ago. Antoine was born in 1642 and left France in 1663. Boutin of France greeted us very gently; following our example, they also created their Association. Again in 1996, another trip was organized by the Association and it ended to have the same success. Believe us, it was well worth the cost.
The second root is Antoine Boutin, born in Vernon, France in 1642. He is a drummer in the King's army and stationed at the Château St Louis' garnison in Quebec. He gets married in 1665 to Genevieve Gaudin and the descendants are evaluated today at more than 10,000 through America. After leaving the army, Antoine gets a piece of land in the Dombourg Segneurie (today Neuville Qué). From this marriage, five children were born and the eldest sons Jean-Baptiste and Louis will settle in St Vallier de Bellechasse and Berthier. A large part of today's Boutin families have their origins in this area. The third son, Guillaume became orphan at an early age (1 year) and, like his father, is an adventurer. We find him in 1702 in Louisiana where he is the co-founder of Fort Louis de la Mobile (today Mobile, Alabama). He is called "Le Canadien"(the canadian) and is a member of a group of adventurers coming from New-France in order to start a new colony.
In 1704, Guillaume Boutin gets married to Louise Marguerite Housseau from Chantilly, near Paris. The couple will have two known children Nicolas and Marie Marguerite. Along our searches, it was found that Guillaume died before 1720 and we know that his wife remarried in 1726. We also know that Marie Marguerite attended to a funeral in 1726. We are still looking for the traces of Nicolas who may have descendants.
A good group of Boutins can be found in Louisiana today, especially in the Lafayette area. Their ancestor came from Nova Scotia Canada in 1755 and was not related to the Boutin of Canada and other parts of United States. Even if we are from a different ancestor, we are certainly interested to hear from you.
We presently have an index of more than 7,000 marriages of Boutins. We are trying to establish a dictionary of all Boutins of America. We are greatly interested in receiving ancestors' names from all Boutins of America; we will gladly enter your data in our dictionary. If you wish to get some information from our records, send us email or letter to the address below and we will try to help you.
The Association did a visit to Mobile Alabama in order to celebrate with the alabamians the 300th anniversary of the City of Mobile.
Along our researches, we have found Boutins all over the world;
Boutin families were found in Brazil.....Gilberto Boutin from South-Brazil explained to us that his ancestors were french Huguenots(protestants) whose lives were endangered by King Louis XIV had to move to Germany and it is from this Country that they settled in Brazil in the middle of the 19th century.
A Boutin family was also found in Argentina but we are still awaiting for more details from them.
Recently, we found some Boutin families in New Caledonia; these families are issued of a Boutin ancestor who moved from France to this country in the middle of the 19th century.
